Porcari Initiates East Campus Market Study
Today, vice president of administrative affairs John Porcari sent an email to the campus community asking for input on the proposed East Campus Development initiative. This planned retail services study comes after a poorly advertised and poorly attended public information meeting about the initiative on the 11th. The full letter is below.
We encourage everyone to complete the short survey
We got the following message after completing the survey:
If you get the same thing just comment to this post and tell us what you think East Campus should be. We’ll listen to you! (Update 9/23: The survey has been fixed, please take it!)
Dear Members of the University of Maryland Community:
The University’s plan to redevelop the East Campus District, located at US Route 1 and Paint Branch Parkway, as a lively, mixed-use environment is the greatest opportunity we have to enhance the physical campus and add the kinds of amenities (such as a specialty grocer, nice restaurants and quality housing) that our outstanding students, faculty
and staff employees want and deserve. One way you can help at an early stage of the process is to participate in a short, online survey in order to evaluate retail services and residential options available to you in the area around campus.
The results of the survey will provide the University with valuable information about how you feel about existing retail offerings (including shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues) and what additional retail services you would like to see. We are also interested in how you feel about residential options near the University
(undergraduate students will not need to complete this section because a recently completed housing study covered the same topics). If you are a student, faculty or staff member affiliated with University of Maryland, College Park, we encourage you to help us with this exciting project by completing this short survey. Simply click on the link below, or paste it into your browser:

All responses will be kept confidential and only reported in aggregate. Please answer all questions to the best of your knowledge. The survey website will be open from Thursday, September 21 to Friday, September 29.
Thank you in advance for your help and support.
