Mazza Tour Recap

May 18th, 2010  |  by David Daddio  |  published in Housing, Mazza Grandmarc

About 15 people turned out Monday for the RTCP-sponsored tour of the nearly complete 630-bed Mazza GrandMarc graduate student housing community in northern College Park. Half of the City Council was in attendance along with interested community members and the press. Each got the opportunity to tour the complex’s different unit configurations (1-4 bedrooms), check [...]

Updated Varsity Renderings and Construction Time-Lapse

May 12th, 2010  |  by John Euill  |  published in Housing, Route 1, The Varsity

Here are a few updated renderings of The Varsity project near the main entrance of the UMD campus. These images provide us with not only the latest glimpse of what the building will look like, but also its relation to Northgate Park which was redesigned during the development review process after a land swap between [...]

RTCP Sponsored Mazza GrandMarc “Hard Hat Tour” May 17th

May 6th, 2010  |  by David Daddio  |  published in Housing, Mazza Grandmarc, Route 1

Rethink College Park is extremely pleased to announce that it’s sponsoring a “hardhat tour” of the nearly complete Mazza GrandMarc Student housing project in North College Park. Ten years in the making, Mazza’s final approval was the subject of a protracted battle between student leaders, Rethink College Park and County Councilman Tom Dernoga in 2007. [...]

Northgate Condo Project Site Goes to the Auction Block

May 1st, 2010  |  by David Daddio  |  published in Housing, Northgate Condominiums

According to sources, the site of Monument Realty’s Northgate Condo project has gone into foreclosure and will hit the auction block this Wednesday, May 5th. The 1.05-acre parcel lies just north of University View and Taco Bell on Route 1. The 17-story, 204-unit, $68 million Northgate project was originally approved in June 2006 as high [...]

Form-based Codes Debate Hits Email

April 24th, 2010  |  by David Daddio  |  published in General College Park, Housing, Route 1

We thought our readers might be interested in a fiery email debate going on between Tom Dernoga, the District 1 County Councilmember leading the effort to prevent the use of form-based codes (FBC) in northern College Park, and myself. Our respective screeds each lay out a fairly complete case against and for the use of [...]

NIMBYs Loathe College Perk Grad Housing Plan

April 14th, 2010  |  by David Daddio  |  published in College Perk Redevelopment, Housing

Apparently city/county politicians and even some students are losing their resolve to build more student housing in College Park. That is according to conversations we’ve had with local stakeholders, a Diamondback article and a staff editorial all which point to seemingly overwhelming opposition (or lackluster support) to the Daria Land Group’s plan to build 120-150 [...]

Fundamentals of CP Student Housing Still Strong

January 30th, 2010  |  by David Daddio  |  published in Commons 7 and 8, Enclave at 8700 - Formerly Starview Plaza, General College Park, Housing, Northgate Area, Oakland Hall, Route 1, The Varsity, University View Overlook

Of the seven active construction projects (listed on our area projects by number page) in College Park right now, five of them are student housing. The other two are University-led office buildings in M-Square. Indeed, there is an unprecedented amount of dirt moving on Route 1 right now; proving that while the national economy may [...]

A New Way to Understand Development Plans for CP

December 15th, 2009  |  by David Daddio  |  published in General College Park, Housing, Site Announcements

People get at all the information on RTCP in a lot of different ways. Many use our popular development map, others use the categories in the side bar, still others just follow the site religiously and commit everything to memory. Clay Gump recently launched our area projects by the number page. Basically, it’s a way [...]
