Although it strays slightly from this site’s focus on College Park, I thought our readers might be interested to read my column in yesterday’s Diamondback and one in August that call for strengthened ‘smart growth‘ legislation in Maryland. In them, I draw on events that precipitated in Dorchester County involving the proposed ‘Blackwater Resort’ just upstream from the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. The views in these columns don’t necessarily represent the views of this site or its other authors.

We’re undergoing a substantial renovation in the next couple of days as we work out the kinks in our new navigation map and try to harmonize the library pages with their respective content pages. Please bear with us as we try to improve your access to all of our content and do feel free to leave comments with ideas or suggestions.
This week’s College Park edition of The Gazette newspaper features an article reporting on the launch of this website. The article includes quotes from co-editor David Daddio and I about our vision for the site and intent to engage the broader community to achieve the goal of building a great college town.
The paper also included this story about the city’s plans to partner with a developer to construct a new parking garage, condos, and town hall building downtown.

With classes starting this week and our marketing campaign in full swing we’ve been getting a number of new visitors. While you are here be sure to check out the pages in our library about
Our goal is that the information in both the forums you see below and the library will work off each other to provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date content possible. This website, at its core, is an information clearinghouse. We hope what we’re trying to do is fairly self-explanatory: build an inclusive forum where students, faculty, and community members can read about and discuss development issues in College Park.
If you like what we’re doing we need your help! We are currently looking for students or College Park residents interested in taking photos, writing short posts, and helping us organize events. If you are good with graphics and would like to help us produce promotional material or a better logo we would also like to hear from you.
In order to get the word out about this site we have created groups on two popular social networking websites.
If you have an account on Facebook.com you can join this public Rethink College Park group to connect with other readers.
We have also created this College Park group on the popular photo-sharing website Flickr.com. If you use this website we encourage you to join the group and contribute your College Park photos to the “pool.” If you do not have an account you can still view the group’s photo without logging in. If you’d like us to consider using your photo either send it to the group or just add the tag “rethinkcollegepark.”
Welcome to RethinkCollegePark.net! Watch this space for more information about College Park development.
Interested in what we’re doing? We’re looking for writers, people with technical and graphics skills, and people to help us plan community events. Email us at rgoodspe (at) umd.edu or ddaddio (at) umd.edu.
